What if I don’t like the color I picked?

We want you happy upon the completion of your job. But regardless of the quality of work done, you may be unhappy with the colors you choose. After selecting a painting contractor, the selection of colors to be used are the next most important decision that you need to make. Take your time on color selection and only use a company that is willing to assist you in making those decisions. Ask for color charts ahead of time and buy a quart or so of paint to try it on a couple of different areas of your home as well as in different types of lighting. The cost of a few samples of paint is much cheaper than repainting a room or entire house if you end up unhappy with the color chosen. If you do not want to change the color of your home, then just ask us to match the existing color and we will most likely be able to do that.

We recommend waiting two weeks. Paint dries in a matter of a few hours but all paint goes through a curing process which takes longer.

Leftover paints and other hazardous waste must be disposed of properly.

There are various cleaners on the market that are specifically designed from the removal of Mildew.  Many of these work quite well, however, a bleach and water solution will also work.

Wash mildewed areas with a solution of one part household bleach and three parts water. This will destroy mildew and bleach stains caused by mildew growth. Apply solution by brush or a garden sprayer apparatus. Heavy mildew may require additional applications, and scrubbing may be required. Flush area with clean water (before the solution dries) to remove bleach solution. Allow the surface to dry thoroughly. Be sure to use protective clothing and goggles to avoid contact with the solution. Do not mix bleach with other chemicals.

Please note that these steps address the mildew problem only.  Any other contaminants may require cleaning by other means.

Blistering: describes paint that bubbles on the surface. It is an early sign that more serious problems, like peeling, may be forming.

Causes: Blistering can result from poor preparation or hasty application of primer or paint. The blisters are caused by trapped moisture as it forces its way through the surface.

Solution: Scrape and touch up localized blistering. For widespread  damage, remove paint down to bare wood, then apply new primer and paint.

Peeling: occurs when paint disengages entirely from the surface, falling away in flakes.

Causes: Peeling is most often associated with persistent moisture problems, generally from a leak or a failed vapor barrier.

Solution: Identify and correct any moisture problems. If the peeling is localized, scrape and sand the damaged area only, then touch up with new primer and paint. If peeling is widespread, remove the old paint down to bare wood. Apply new primer and paint.

Alligatoring: is widespread flaking and cracking of surfaces, typically seen on old paint and surfaces with many built-up layers of paint.

Causes: alligatoring can be caused by excessive layers of paint, inadequate surface preparation, or insufficient drying time for a primer.

Solution: Repainting will not permanently cover significant alligatoring. Remove the old paint down to bare wood, then prime and repaint.

Detecting the Source of Moisture Beneath a Painted Surface

Localized blistering and peeling Indicates that moisture, usually from a leaky roof or gutter system, is trapped under the paint. Check roofing and gutter materials to find the source of the leak. Also look for leaking pipes inside the wall. Correct the moisture problem before you repaint.
